Bauchi: The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Iliya Damagum, has commented on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s recent resignation from the party, stating that it is neither surprising nor unprecedented. Damagum expressed expectations that Atiku would eventually return to the PDP fold, as his departures and reentries have been a consistent aspect of his political journey.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Damagum emphasized that the PDP is not overly concerned about Atiku’s decision to leave. He noted that the party has grown accustomed to these cyclical exits and returns, viewing them as part of Atiku’s broader political strategy rather than a definitive departure.
Damagum elaborated that Atiku’s movements are seen as a continuation of a familiar pattern, leading the party to interpret this latest resignation as a strategic maneuver. The PDP’s calm stance is attributed to its confidence in its resilience and a belief that Atiku’s departure may not be permanent.
Additionally, Damagum referenced reports indicating that Atiku is in the process of forming a new political platform, the Alliance for Democratic Congress, in anticipation of future elections.
