Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military leader Ibrahim Babangida, as the Chairman of the revitalised Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this announcement was made by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, highlighting a series of key appointments in federal agencies.
Tinubu’s appointments extend beyond Babangida, as he also named eight other individuals to significant positions. Babangida, who is 53 years old, brings a wealth of academic experience with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations from European University in Montreux, Switzerland. Additionally, he completed an Executive Programme in Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.
Among the new appointees are Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna, who is set to chair the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), and Jamilu Aliyu from Kano, appointed as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). Yahuza Inuwa, also from Kano, has been named Chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), while Sanusi Musa from Kano will head the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
Other significant appointments include Prof. Al-Mustapha Aliyu from Sokoto, who will serve as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), and Sanusi Rikiji from Zamfara, who will lead the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN). Mrs. Tomi Somefun from Oyo has been appointed as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), and Dr. Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna takes on the role of Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
