Abuja: The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced four Boko Haram terrorists to life imprisonment. Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment after the accused pleaded guilty to charges presented by the Federal Government, supported by evidence from a Department of State Services (DSS) witness.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, along with Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, led the Federal Government’s legal team during the proceedings. The prosecution introduced confessional statements and investigation reports through a DSS witness, which were accepted as evidence.
Ali Abiso, Bakura Abah Kabiru, Ado (a.k.a Luka Garba), and Babagoni Masawai were sentenced to life imprisonment. Abiso, charged in FHC/KNJ/CR/509/2026, pleaded guilty to all counts. Justice Omotosho sentenced him to life imprisonment on counts two and four, and 25 years for each of counts one and three, which will run concurrently.
The court found that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. In count four, Abiso was accused of participating in Boko Haram attacks in various locations, an offence under Section 17 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Kabiru received a life sentence for count two and 25 years for counts one and three. Ado was sentenced to life for count two and 25 years for count one. Masawai received life sentences for counts six and seven, 20 years for counts one and two, and 10 years for counts three, four, and five.
Justice Omotosho also sentenced 14 other convicts to varying jail terms after they pleaded guilty. Their confessional statements and investigation reports were presented by the DSS. Ali Mustapha was sentenced to 20 years for count one and 10 years for counts two to seven, to run concurrently.
Other convicted individuals include Danbawa Salisu, Modu Ali, Sanda Bello, Mustapha Fali, Modu Musa, Bidal Modu, Mohammed Abdullahi, Umar Garba, Usman Ahmadu, Hussaini Bukar, Baba Manye, Musa Mai Modu, and Ali Musa.
