Lagos: The Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS) has appointed Mr. Shehu Shantali as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026, following the receipt of regulatory no-objection. Mr. Shantali will succeed Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, who is stepping down after eight years marked by strategic growth and contributions to Nigeria’s capital market infrastructure.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the company made this announcement in a statement on Friday. Commenting on the leadership transition, Chairman of the Board, Mr. Temi Popoola, expressed profound appreciation for Jalo-Waziri’s outstanding service. Under Jalo-Waziri’s leadership, CSCS achieved notable milestones and built a legacy of operational excellence and innovation, strengthening stakeholder confidence.
Reflecting on his tenure, Jalo-Waziri shared that it has been an honor to serve as CEO of CSCS. He expressed pride in the achievements made as a team and gratitude for the support from the Board, management, regulators, and stakeholders. Jalo-Waziri is confident that CSCS is well positioned for the future and wishes his successor success in leading the company forward.
The incoming CEO, Mr. Shehu Shantali, expressed his deep honor and confidence placed in him by the Board with this appointment. During Jalo-Waziri’s tenure, he demonstrated leadership that drove consistent growth and transformation across the organization. He implemented key strategic initiatives, reinforced governance and operational efficiency, and upgraded systems and processes. These efforts enhanced the company’s resilience, competitiveness, and stakeholder confidence, expanding its relevance locally and globally.
Mr. Shantali holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an Executive MBA from Kingster Business School. With over two decades of experience in accounting, finance, and financial services across Nigeria and the United Kingdom, his expertise spans investment and asset management, financial advisory, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). His career includes significant roles in capital markets, investment banking, real estate, and financial services, with a decade at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria.
