Abuja: The National Women Leader, National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASLAF), Ayoola Fakunle, has sponsored and facilitated a capacity-building programme for female legislative aides.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this is part of efforts to improve legislative efficiency and productivity. Speaking with journalists at the end of the training, Fakunle emphasized the critical roles legislative aides play in lawmaking processes and other legislative duties. She underscored the importance of regular training to keep these aides at par with their counterparts globally.
Fakunle highlighted that legislative aides are an indispensable component of the legislature, noting that the effectiveness of lawmakers largely depends on the quality of support they receive from their aides. The training programme aimed to enhance the aides’ knowledge and experience, allowing them to perform their roles more effectively.
A significant part of the training focused on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as Fakunle stressed the necessity for legislative aides to stay technologically relevant amid the global shift towards digital operations. In addition to the training, participants were provided with working materials, including tablets, to assist them in their official duties.
In a related development, Fakunle also sponsored the payment of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration fees for some indigent students in secondary schools in Kwara. She described the gesture as part of her annual commitment to supporting the less privileged and contributing to community development. Fakunle encouraged well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting the needy to promote social development.
