Abuja: The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent fare discount on all train services as part of measures to ease transportation costs for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. This decision aims to make travel more affordable for citizens during the festive period.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this initiative is detailed in a statement issued by Gift Osima, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, based in Abuja. Osima relayed the message from Funsho Adebiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, who noted that the fare reduction would commence on Tuesday, May 26, and continue through Monday, June 1.
Adebiyi stated that ticket fares on all Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) passenger train services across the country have been slashed by 50 per cent of the existing approved rates for the duration of the specified period. He further mentioned that passengers who had previously purchased tickets at the full price prior to this announcement would receive a 50 per cent rebate, which could be used for train rides scheduled on or before Monday, June 1.
He also confirmed that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged and operate as previously advertised, ensuring that the travel plans of passengers remain unaffected while taking advantage of the discounted fares.
