Poland: Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, played out a 1-1 draw with South Korea in their final international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Tuesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the encounter was a closed-door international friendly played at the Remes Resort Stadium in Poland. The Falconets entered the game with confidence, having secured a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in their previous warm-up match. Mary Mamudu, who scored the decisive goal against Poland, continued her scoring streak by giving Nigeria the lead in the 29th minute. Her goal showcased the team’s attacking capabilities under the guidance of coach Moses Aduku.
The Falconets maintained their advantage until the half-time break, holding a 1-0 lead. However, South Korea returned in the second half with a desire to equalize, eventually drawing level in the 78th minute after being awarded a penalty. The South Koreans successfully converted the spot-kick to make it 1-1, and despite efforts from both sides, the match concluded without a winner.
NAN reports that the Falconets had previously defeated Poland 1-0 on August 28 in their first international friendly as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup. Nigeria is set to compete in Group F alongside Spain, China PR, and New Caledonia. They will face Spain on September 7, China PR on September 10, and New Caledonia on September 13.
Nigeria has been one of the most consistent teams in the history of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, with runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2014.
