Abuja: An author, Dr. AK Peters, has revealed that the book, *The Shaibu Doctrine*, delves into the leadership philosophy and mission command strategy employed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, to tackle security challenges in Nigeria. Peters shared these insights during a news conference in Abuja, emphasizing the book’s role in fostering a national dialogue on military leadership and the future of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Peters highlighted that the book, co-authored with Dr. Sunday Adejoh of the Nigerian Defence Academy and Dr. M.S. Abubakar, aims to analyze and preserve leadership lessons for future generations. He praised the work as a product of rigorous patriotism and operational insight, focusing on Shaibu’s visionary military leadership, which promotes initiative and responsibility within the chain of command.
Peters noted that Shaibu’s approach has made the Nigerian Army more adaptive and professional, enhancing troops’ morale and civil-military relations. He stressed that the book is crucial for addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, advocating for the development and institutionalization of military doctrines that transcend individual leadership.
He announced that the public presentation of *The Shaibu Doctrine* will occur on Oct. 30 at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, urging media support to broaden the national conversation on the issues raised in the publication. He also commended the authors for their patriotism and acknowledged Shaibu’s leadership in the Army.
Co-author Dr. M.S. Abubakar discussed Nigeria’s prolonged battle against insecurity since 2009, highlighting Lt.-Gen. Shaibu’s different approach with the mission command strategy. This involves deploying troops with clear objectives and allowing them to exercise initiative, which Abubakar said is reshaping the fight against insecurity.
Abubakar further explained that the strategy has been documented due to its relevance to Nigeria’s renewed defense and security approach, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. President Tinubu has approved and penned the foreword to the book, underscoring its significance.
He described the complexity of fighting insurgency and terrorism, which involves enemies embedded within communities. Despite these challenges, Abubakar emphasized the mission command strategy as a successful approach that should be adopted across the security community to consolidate gains in the fight against insecurity.
