Abuja: The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, announced a new initiative aimed at training one million Nigerians in digital literacy. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) for the National Conference on Digital Literacy and the launch of the Clergywealth Digital Skills Nigeria Initiative.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Akume, represented by Dr. Ibrahim Kana, highlighted that the initiative seeks to enhance digital literacy, human capital development, and foster inclusive digital transformation. This program aligns with the Federal Government’s Digital Transformation Agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The initiative, implemented under the Future Proof Economy (FPE) Model, aims to certify one million Nigerians in its initial phase. Akume emphasized that the program is fully sponsored by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited, with no financial obligation on the federal government.
The SGF noted that the initiative is supported by resolutions from the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) meeting in December 2025, which adopted the FPE Model for digital literacy implementation nationwide.
The JIC will oversee the planning of the National Digital Literacy Conference and the rollout of training programs across the country. The ICT Department of the Office of the SGF will serve as the secretariat to this committee.
Mrs. Rosemary Osikoya, Deputy National Coordinator, Admin and Public Communications at Clergywealth, stated that the conference aims to raise awareness about digital skills and provide hands-on training. The training will cover areas like basic digital literacy, online safety, digital entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies such as AI.
Participants will engage in six-month training batches, receive international certifications, and be provided with laptops upon successful completion. The initiative aims to equip over one million youths for remote work and global employment opportunities.
Osikoya also announced the launch of the Digital Literacy Academy and the Artisan Development Project during a two-day conference on Jan. 28 and Jan. 29. Clergywealth is focused on improving the living conditions of clergy, civil society leaders, and rural dwellers in Nigeria through various empowerment initiatives.
NAN reports that the committee is headed by Dr. Ibrahim Kana and includes members such as Zainab Abubakar, Dr. Ebi, Mr. Ifeanyi Okereke, Joe Odoh, Dr. Mohammed Tambuwal, Rosemary Osikoya, Dr. Grace Amaefule, and other representatives from the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
