Abuja: Troops of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 19 kidnapped victims and neutralised one terrorist during a coordinated operation in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. This operation, which represents a significant victory in the fight against terrorism in the region, underscores the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the operation was detailed in a statement by Lt. Odunola Olawuyi, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters Guards Brigade. The operation was conducted by troops of the 7 Guards Battalion in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, focusing on the Gidan Dogo area after credible intelligence indicated the presence of terrorists responsible for recent abductions in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
Lt. Olawuyi reported that during the operation, troops engaged with the criminals, resulting in a firefight where one terrorist was neutralised, while others managed to escape with suspected gunshot wounds. The troops’ efforts led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm.
All 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to safety, receiving necessary attention following their ordeal. After the operation, troops returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari, ensuring the continued security of the area.
Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, Commander of the Guards Brigade, praised the troops and the collaborating security agencies for their bravery and professionalism during the operation. He reaffirmed the brigade’s dedication to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and safeguarding Abuja as the nation’s seat of power.
