Lagos: The Oguta Community in Oguta LGA of Imo on Friday organised a civic reception in honour of its prominent son and Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr Sylvester Nwakuche. The event was a tribute to Nwakuche’s leadership and his recent appointment as Controller-General.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the ceremony, themed ‘Honour, Service and Cultural Heritage’, took place at the Oguta Lake Waterfront. In his address, Nwakuche expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and noted the positive impact of the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda on the Nigerian Correctional Service. He emphasized the role of his community in his success, stating that his appointment was a testament to integrity and hard work nurtured by his roots.
Nwakuche also acknowledged the mentorship of Interior Minister Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for his leadership and dedication to the state’s development. He encouraged the youth to remain disciplined and focused, assuring them that excellence and integrity would eventually be rewarded. Furthermore, he called for peace within the community.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Oguta LGA, Mr Ifeanyi Nnani, congratulated Nwakuche on his appointment and attributed his success to dedication and hard work. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for recognizing Nwakuche’s capabilities and pledged the LGA’s support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Nnani highlighted the socio-economic contributions of the Oguta Community and urged for peace as a foundation for sustainable development.
Mr Faith Iwuorisha, President-General of the Oguta Community Development Union, welcomed attendees by highlighting Nwakuche’s selfless service and impact on the community, particularly in youth employment. He noted that Nwakuche’s efforts had significantly reduced social issues like frustration, restiveness, and criminality among the youth.
The event featured a variety of cultural performances, including a boat regatta, Kayak races on Oguta lake, masquerade displays, and other cultural showcases.
