Lagos: KB Klub, in collaboration with the Oba Elegushi Foundation, has launched a blood donation drive aimed at addressing maternal mortality and postpartum hemorrhage due to blood shortages. The initiative seeks to mobilize Nigerians to donate blood and support life-saving efforts.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project has partnered with key regulatory bodies, including the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, to ensure that the blood collected is distributed efficiently. The blood will be supplied to general hospitals across six local government areas, directly impacting communities in need.
Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Ikate/Elegushi Kingdom highlighted the mutual benefits of blood donation for both donors and recipients. He mentioned that donating blood contributes to personal well-being, detoxification, and the critical mission of saving lives. Elegushi also pointed out common misconceptions about blood donation, urging authorities to enhance public awareness and education on the matter.
Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, Secretary of the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service, stressed the importance of ongoing advocacy and outreach efforts. She noted that her team has been actively engaging with various communities to educate the public on the significance of voluntary blood donation, who needs it, and the process involved, to foster a culture of donation across the state.
