Abuja: The Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has initiated preparations to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) from November 1 to November 7 in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the association introduced its plans at a news conference in Abuja, urging stakeholders and partners to support what is expected to be a significant continental championship.
This marks the third time Nigeria will host the tournament, with previous editions held in 1996 at Ikoyi Club and in 2010 in Abuja. The 2026 championship will once again take place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, with participation anticipated from approximately 40 African countries.
LGAN President, Lami Ahmed, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness and ambition, emphasizing the nation’s determination not only to host but also to win. She highlighted that preparations, strategic training programs, and partnerships are already in progress to boost Team Nigeria’s competitiveness.
Ahmed extended gratitude to
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for their support in sports development, especially in women’s golf. She also acknowledged the contributions of the National Sports Commission Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for their support and infrastructural improvements in Abuja.
The unveiling of the AACT logo at the event symbolized the beginning of preparations for the continental event. Former LGAN President, Evelyn Oyome, confirmed that arrangements are advancing smoothly, covering accommodation, logistics, and security for the golfers.
AACT Trustee for West and Central Africa, Ekanem Ekwueme, praised Nigeria’s ongoing efforts in promoting women’s golf, while AACT President, Madamè Cécile Poncet of Gabon, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to host a successful tournament.
The 2026 championship highlights Nigeria’s growing golf profile and signifies advancements in sports development, security, and hospitality for athletes and visitors.
