Post: Lions International Provides Eye Care to Over 200 People on World Sight Day


Ibadan:Nigeria The Lions International District 404B4 has successfully screened more than 200 individuals, distributing prescription glasses, medications, and other eye-care materials as part of the 2026 World Sight Day celebrations.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was organized under the district’s Sight Preservation and Eye Health Project, with the theme ‘Love Your Eyes, Sight for All.’ It included eye examinations by medical professionals and provided essential medications, as well as referrals for individuals needing further medical care.



District Committee Chairperson for Sight Preservation, Lion Funmilayo Oladeji, emphasized the significance of early detection and treatment of eye conditions. Oladeji stated that sight is crucial for everyday activities, and Lions International is dedicated to preserving sight and enhancing access to eye-care services. He highlighted the importance of community support, as Lions International cannot meet all eye-care needs alone.



President of the Ibadan Hilltop Lions Club, Lion Bisi Shofunde, reinforced the organization’s commitment to preventing avoidable blindness. Shofunde noted that many visual impairments could be mitigated with early detection and treatment. She mentioned past initiatives, such as supporting cataract surgeries and providing eye-care materials, and called for government involvement in routine eye screenings, particularly for students.



Guest lecturer Mrs. Adetunji Opeyemi and beneficiaries like Mrs. Mary Akinwale and Mr. Azeez Sanni expressed gratitude for the initiative, stressing the importance of professional eye care and regular screenings to maintain vision health.
