Cotonou: The Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Benin Republic, Ambassador Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to promoting peace and democratic stability within West Africa. This commitment was highlighted during her Eid-el-Kabir visit to the 260 Nigerian troops of Operation Atileyin Alaafia II, stationed at Togin Military Base in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adeola-Ibrahim expressed immense pride in the troops’ unwavering commitment, professionalism, and loyalty to duty. She emphasized that the presence of Nigerian forces in Benin is a testament to Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to regional peace and stability. Since their deployment on April 10, 2026, the troops have conducted themselves with dignity and professionalism, reinforcing Nigeria’s image as a responsible regional power and dependable partner.
Adeola-Ibrahim praised the troops for their courage, discipline, and sacrifice, which have brought pride to Nigeria and the African continent. She acknowledged their role in maintaining security and stability during the recent peaceful democratic transition in Benin, where President Romuald Wadagni took office. The ambassador highlighted that their efforts have strengthened security cooperation and deepened bonds between Nigeria and Benin.
She assured the troops that the Nigerian government values their sacrifices, especially during moments of celebration such as the Sallah season. Adeola-Ibrahim emphasized that their patriotism and sense of duty will be remembered by posterity. She noted that the strength of a nation is reflected in the courage of those willing to defend peace and national honor.
In the spirit of Sallah, the embassy made a modest donation to the troops as a token of appreciation. Responding to the ambassador’s remarks, the Commanding Officer of the troops, Lt.-Col. Ambrose Ikoro, expressed gratitude for the recognition and appreciation of the Nigerian armed forces’ efforts.
