Osogbo: The Osun State Government in southwest Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to sustainable economic growth through continuous support for the Adire industry.

According to Voice of Nigeria, the governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, disclosed this commitment at the opening ceremony of the 2025 edition of the Adire Osun Agbaye Fiesta, taking place in Osogbo from September 11th to 14th, 2025. The governor, represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, emphasized the unique potential of the Adire industry to drive growth and create employment through its value chain.

Osun State is identified as a key source of Adire production in Nigeria, and the governor highlighted the potential transformation of the state into a global hub for the design, production, and vending of the fabric. He encouraged the populace, particularly the youth, to engage in the production and marketing of Adire, emphasizing its significance as a cultural heritage that mirrors the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of its people.

In his address, the governor noted the broader economic implications of the Adire garment industry, emphasizing its role in job creation and poverty reduction. He urged a shift in perception, encouraging people to view Adire not just as a fabric but as a representation of cultural identity and innovation.

Ayodeji Olamilekan, the special adviser to the governor on cultural affairs, highlighted the socio-cultural impact of the Adire revolution in the state. He advocated for the revival of locally manufactured fabrics like Adire to reduce dependency on imported textiles and boost local industries. By showcasing the cultural heritage of Adire through the Osun Agbaye Fiesta, the event aims to inspire a return to indigenous textile practices.

Mrs. Solabomi Akinsola, an event organizer, acknowledged the state’s supportive policies for the Adire sector. She urged the government to continue backing artisans in the industry to fully leverage the economic benefits of the Adire value chain.

The Adire Osun Agbaye Fiesta is a four-day event that includes cultural festivities, symposia, tourism activities, and concludes with a gala and award night.
