Abuja: The Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Food Intervention for Women and Families, has distributed food items across communities as part of its commitment to welfare and economic empowerment. This initiative aims to ensure that vulnerable households can celebrate the Christmas season with dignity while laying the foundation for sustainable empowerment.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ahmed Danbazau, the ministry’s Head of Information, Press and Public Relations Department, disclosed the initiative in a statement from Abuja. Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, emphasized that the intervention is a heartfelt gesture intended to enable families to cook for their loved ones during the Christmas season. She urged Nigerians to reflect on shared values of family, health, finances, and spirituality, stressing the importance of ensuring that available food reaches those who need it most.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed gratitude to partner institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Works, Nigeria Customs Service, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. She assured beneficiaries that the intervention would continue beyond the festive period, with plans for another round of sharing in January. She emphasized the importance of women’s unity, highlighting that collective action is already yielding positive national outcomes.
The minister reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s priority for women’s economic empowerment as critical to achieving a one trillion dollar economy. She pointed to programs in agriculture, clean cooking gas, fabrication, ownership opportunities, and grassroots access as key components of this vision. She encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in government programs, add value, and benefit from these opportunities.
Mrs. Esuabana Nko-Asanye, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, also spoke at the event, commending Nigerian women and describing the ministry as a global champion for women, children, and families. She underscored the importance of education to national development and called for sustained efforts to end gender-based violence. She reaffirmed the ministry’s long-term vision in line with national and continental development frameworks.
The Renewed Hope Food intervention represents both immediate relief and a pathway to sustainable empowerment for Nigerian women and families, aiming to create lasting improvements in their lives.
