Abuja:Senator Muntari Dandutse, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, has called for enhanced collaboration among government agencies to ensure the effective recovery of loans disbursed under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dandutse, representing Katsina South Senatorial District, emphasized that such collaboration would assist in identifying beneficiaries who have secured employment, thereby facilitating loan recovery to sustain the financial scheme.
In an interview, Dandutse highlighted that the success of loan recovery largely hinges on beneficiaries securing jobs and the collaboration of relevant agencies to ensure repayment. He noted that effective inter-agency efforts could lead to the successful recovery of funds, enabling other financially disadvantaged students to benefit from the scheme.
Dandutse praised NELFUND as a significant initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which aims to remove financial barriers for eligible Nigerians pursuing higher education. He mentioned that the Senate Committee has engaged in zonal meetings to raise awareness among stakeholders and encourage eligible students to take advantage of the financial support offered.
The senator also underscored the achievements of TETFund in federal tertiary institutions, particularly in infrastructure, research, and innovation. Additionally, he applauded the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Funtua, Katsina State, viewing it as a positive development for his district. The university, established through an Act of the National Assembly, promises to enhance medical education and produce qualified healthcare professionals.
Dandutse concluded by stressing the importance of education for national development and expressed confidence that increased collaboration and awareness would fortify the NELFUND initiative, benefiting more students.
