Post: Tinubu Pledges to Eradicate Terrorism, Urges NEC to Promote Inclusive Growth

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared that Nigeria would defeat terrorism and banditry, describing the threats as ‘unacceptable’ and alien to the nation’s core values. The president also tasked the National Economic Council (NEC) to drive inclusive growth, stressing the need for the effective implementation of the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tinubu gave the charge while declaring open the Second National Economic Council Conference at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. He emphasized that insecurity remained a major hindrance to economic growth and required urgent collective action. Tinubu assured attendees of his commitment to enhancing security forces and eradicating terrorism, voicing confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome these challenges with determination and resilience.

Tinubu welcomed state governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, development partners, and private sector leaders to the two-day conference. The conference, themed ‘Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030,’ was attended by critical stakeholders. He commended NEC, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, for maintaining a platform for policy coordination and strategic dialogue.

The president highlighted the administration’s reforms, which have helped stabilize the economy, restore confidence, and improve global perception. He noted that the monetary policy reforms have yielded positive results and gained international recognition. Tinubu further elaborated on the Renewed Hope Ward Development Project, aimed at enhancing grassroots inclusion through a bottom-up approach.

Tinubu described the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030 as evidence-based, realistic, and focused on inclusive and sustainable growth. The plan prioritizes economic diversification, human capital development, and subnational competitiveness. It also emphasizes private sector-led growth and climate resilience.

He stated that the plan’s success would largely depend on the ability of states and local councils to translate national priorities into measurable results. NEC will play a crucial role in aligning national goals with subnational realities. Tinubu urged leaders to move from declarations to implementation through data-driven decisions, peer learning, and innovative financing models.

The president emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity is a strength and that when every state grows, the nation grows as a whole. He noted that states and local governments now receive increased and more predictable federal allocations to strengthen service delivery. Infrastructure development across transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing, and irrigation has been prioritized.

Tinubu also highlighted expanded social investment and human capital programs targeting vulnerable households, youth, women, and small businesses. He attributed these successes to strong collaboration among the federal and state governments, development partners, and the private sector.
