Patani: President Bola Tinubu has shown commitment to the South-South region, Dr. Timi Tonye, the Executive Director of Corporate Services, South-South Development Commission, has said. Tonye made this statement in Patani, Delta, during his paper presentation at the unveiling of the ‘Patani United Front for Re-Election of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027’.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was convened by Chief Godbless Omoniye, Executive Assistant (Political) to the Delta Governor. Tonye, speaking on the paper titled ‘The Imperative for Continuity: A Delta-Centric Case for the Re-election of President Tinubu and Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’, stressed the importance of maintaining the progress that has been achieved in the country thus far. He emphasized that the upcoming 2027 elections are about protecting progress and not merely personalities.
Tonye highlighted the development seen across different parts of Delta, including Burutu, Asaba, Warri, and Agbor, stating that Delta is moving forward. He noted the transformation from mere promises to tangible projects, peace, and a government that listens and delivers. Tonye underscored that the South-South region, previously overlooked, is now receiving attention through President Tinubu’s actions, particularly with the establishment of the South-South Development Commission.
He elaborated that this commission symbolizes focused development for oil-producing communities, infrastructure for riverine areas, environmental remediation, and opportunities for youth. Tonye also touched on the economic reforms, particularly the effects of subsidy removal, noting that resources are now being channeled toward development and social support.
Furthermore, Tonye commended the Delta Governor’s efforts in spreading development across the state, restructuring the Ministry of Works for better accountability, and fostering a peaceful environment conducive to investment. He concluded by highlighting the strategic alignment between Asaba and Abuja, stressing its importance for continued development.
In response, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Chief Funkekeme Solomon, Delta Coordinator of the Renewed Hope initiative, congratulated the programme initiators and praised the Delta government’s developmental efforts, encouraging the audience to translate these efforts into votes during elections.
