Lokoja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has successfully removed two articulated vehicles that were obstructing the free flow of traffic at the Koton-Karfe-Murtala Bridge, Banda, and Lokoja Highway.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed announced the development on Tuesday during a site visit to assess the traffic situation at the Lokoja gridlock. He was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and the FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi. Mohammed highlighted that the corps had deployed adequate personnel and logistics, strengthening inter-agency collaboration to restore vehicular movement and improve traffic control. The concerted efforts of the FRSC, Nigeria Police, and other sister agencies have resulted in the gradual movement of traffic.
Mohammed identified broken-down trucks as a primary cause of the gridlock, emphasizing the proactive intervention by the corps to alleviate the impact. He noted that the increased vehicular movement due to the festive season had initially exacerbated the congestion, prompting the corps to scale up its deployment of personnel from Abuja and other locations.
The on-the-spot visit by the Corps Marshal aimed to provide leadership support and encouragement to the officers managing the congestion. Mohammed appealed to motorists to adhere to traffic rules, warning that indiscipline, such as driving against traffic and failing to maintain lanes, had worsened the situation. He commended the FRSC personnel and other agencies for their exceptional dedication, highlighting the sacrifice of officers who had worked continuously to ensure traffic flow.
The FRSC Corps Marshal assured motorists that the intensified operations would continue until traffic flow fully normalized. He urged patience and cooperation from all road users, stressing the importance of discipline among drivers to maintain a free-flowing Koton-Karfe-Lokoja Road.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, affirmed that adequate security measures were in place to ensure the safety of officers involved in the operation. He attributed the restoration of vehicular movement along the Lokoja corridor to the sustained interagency collaboration among security and traffic management agencies. Kankarofi noted that the visit by the FRSC Corps Marshal from Abuja had bolstered morale and reinforced the importance of teamwork. The police, as the lead security agency, will continue to coordinate efforts and appreciate the support from sister agencies.
