Abuja: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its zoning arrangement will serve as the guiding framework for its upcoming National Convention, which is scheduled for March 29 and 30 in the capital city. This decision was detailed in a communique released following the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the communique was signed by Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Secretary of the NCWC. The NEC expressed the party’s preparedness for the convention, themed ‘A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal’, and instructed all party organs and committees to ensure seamless coordination for a successful event. The NEC also confirmed the adoption of a zoning formula for national elective positions, aligning with the party’s principles of equity and national balance.
The NEC noted that the sale of nomination forms for the National Convention has begun and urged interested aspirants to adhere to the approved guidelines and timelines. It emphasized the party’s supremacy, calling for unity, discipline, and commitment among its members.
The NEC expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Ward, Local Government Area, State, and Zonal Congresses, ratifying the reports of these congresses. It commended party leaders, electoral committees, and members for their adherence to due process and highlighted the peaceful and credible nature of the exercises.
Additionally, the NEC reviewed the progress of the ongoing electronic registration of members, reaffirming its commitment to a comprehensive and technology-driven membership database. It urged all members to participate actively in the exercise.
The NEC expressed confidence in the party’s renewed strength, unity, and organisational capacity, assuring members and Nigerians of PDP’s readiness to provide leadership and national direction.
