Benin: Mr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, an aspirant for Edo South Senatorial District, says the 2027 general elections offer a critical opportunity to reposition the youth generation.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ogbeide-Ihama stated this during a consultation visit to the Oredo Local Government Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday. The aspirant emphasized that youth voters represent a generation that ‘must not be wasted.’ Ogbeide-Ihama, a former member of the House of Representatives, described his ambition as a bridge between youth energy and governance experience while addressing party faithful.
He urged elders and party leaders to support a leadership shift that reflects the realities of younger Nigerians, stressing that while youth inclusion is important, it must be backed by capacity and exposure. He argued that leadership requires more than age, emphasizing ability and track record.
Ogbeide-Ihama drew from his eight-year tenure in the Green Chamber, highlighting that young leaders must combine ambition with practical knowledge of governance to be effective in the National Assembly. He maintained that his political journey places him within the reach and understanding of younger constituents, while still commanding the necessary experience to navigate national politics.
The former lawmaker also highlighted his electoral strength, noting that winning elections across party lines demonstrates both grassroots acceptance and strategic relevance. While reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, he made a case for generational transition anchored on competence, emphasizing the urgency for leaders who understand both the system and the people.
