New York:Mr. Ibrahim Mark, President of the African Bar Association (AFBA), has called on lawyers and human rights advocates to unite across generations and borders in defense of human dignity and the rule of law.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mark issued this call during the ongoing 2026 Annual Conference of the National Conference of Black Lawyers (NCBL) in New York. The conference’s theme is ‘Organising Intergenerational Warriors Against State-Sponsored Violence and Political Repression-Here and Abroad’.
Mark emphasized that the AfBA will remain a steadfast ally of the National Conference of Black Lawyers. He highlighted that no society can truly thrive when justice is unequal, dignity is conditional, and race determines how individuals are treated by the state.
He noted the shared history and struggles between Africa and Black communities in America, underscoring a common pursuit of freedom, dignity, and justice. Mark acknowledged the significant contributions of Black Americans in various fields and expressed concern over ongoing racial prejudice and unequal treatment.
Mark urged for organizing efforts across generations and borders to confront state-sponsored violence and political repression, and to strengthen institutions that uphold human rights and the rule of law. He expressed hope for progress, peace, and inclusion for Black communities in America, advocating for equality and justice for all.
The AfBA President reiterated support for the struggle for equal treatment, accountability, and access to justice, both in America and globally. He called for renewed commitment to intergenerational solidarity and collective action to achieve these goals.
