Abuja:The National Agricultural Farmers Network (NAFN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to participate in the 2026 Annual National Agricultural Show and engage with farmers regarding his administration’s agricultural policies and interventions.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event, organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), is set to take place from November 16 to November 20, with the official opening scheduled for November 17. The theme for the show is ‘Repositioning Agriculture for National Prosperity Linking Smallholder Farmers, Government and the Private Sector to Technology, Finance, Markets and Value Addition.’
NAFN National Coordinator, Aishatu Ibrahim, emphasized that President Tinubu’s attendance would highlight the contributions of farmers to food security, job creation, and economic growth. She noted that the event would offer a platform for the President to interact with farmers nationwide, listen to their concerns, and outline his administration’s agricultural policies and accomplishments.
Ibrahim urged the Federal Government to recognize the show as Nigeria’s official National Agricultural Day, suggesting that it could serve as an annual platform to celebrate farmers, showcase innovations, attract investment, and assess progress within the sector. She advocated for using the event to directly engage farmers on policy implementation, challenges, and future plans, allowing them to communicate their experiences and production needs.
State governors, the National Assembly, traditional rulers, development partners, financial institutions, private investors, researchers, and commodity associations were also encouraged to participate in the event. Ibrahim highlighted the 2026 theme’s focus on strengthening connections among smallholder farmers, the government, and the private sector to enhance access to finance, technology, markets, storage, and processing facilities.
The show will feature agricultural innovations and technologies from the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) and exhibitions of farm produce by smallholder and large-scale farmers. Federal and state agriculture ministries, agricultural agencies, agro-allied companies, financial institutions, and commodity groups are expected to participate.
The programme includes a seminar on the challenges and prospects of agriculture, featuring experts from academia, government, financial institutions, and the farming sector. The event aims to connect farmers with the technology, investment, and resources needed to boost production and improve livelihoods.
