Pankshin:Mr. Felix Gonung, Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council in Plateau, has vowed to address the issue of suspected ritual killings following the discovery of two deaths in the area within a month.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Gonung confirmed that vital organs were allegedly harvested from the victims. Three suspects were arrested after a woman’s body was found last month, and subsequent investigations led to the recovery of suspected fetish substances from these suspects, who have been transferred to the police headquarters in Jos.
Security agencies are also investigating the case of a young man’s body found at Monday Market on October 6, with vital organs reportedly missing. Gonung indicated the incident could be related to cult activities among students or involve criminal elements within the student community. He assured residents that his administration, along with security agencies, is committed to resolving the situation and restoring peace.
Gonung emphasized his obligation to protect lives and properties, noting that government security plans are confidential but their impact will soon be evident. He announced a new policy requiring landlords and hotel operators to provide information about their tenants and guests to help crack down on criminal syndicates posing as students or guests.
He highlighted that Pankshin had maintained relative peace despite challenges in other parts of Plateau, and urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and report suspicious activities to authorities. Furthermore, Gonung called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.
