Abuja:The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has announced the selection of 74 public sector professionals from six African countries for the sixth cohort of the Aig-Imoukhuede Public Leaders Programme. This initiative aims to enhance leadership skills and promote reforms within the public sector.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the programme is conducted in collaboration with Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government. It is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills, perspectives, and networks to improve public sector leadership and governance outcomes while driving sustainable reforms.
The latest cohort includes participants from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia, with Botswana and Eswatini joining for the first time. This expansion brings the total number of African countries involved in the programme to 12.
The foundation highlights the importance of fostering a network among public servants across Africa, enabling them to share experiences and tackle similar reform challenges. The programme consists of virtual coursework and an intensive residential week at Oxford University, where participants will also develop and implement reform projects within their respective governmental agencies.
Alumni of the programme have successfully led over 300 reform projects across the continent. Surveys indicate that 62 percent of them have taken on expanded leadership roles post-completion. Notable reforms include Nigeria’s first sexual harassment policy for the National Youth Service Corps and healthcare access improvements in Lagos State’s riverine communities.
The foundation remains committed to supporting the new cohort as they cultivate their leadership abilities and apply their learning to enhance public institutions and benefit the communities they serve.
