Akure:Abuja The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has voiced its support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ado-Ekiti Zonal Command’s initiatives against financial crimes.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Comr. Adegoke Ademola, Chief of Staff to the President of NANS, stated that the association endorses the commission’s mandate to investigate, prevent, and prosecute financial crimes. NANS emphasized that no Nigerian should be above the law, regardless of their status.
NANS highlighted that eradicating fraud would improve institutional performance and boost citizens’ confidence in the system. However, the association warned the EFCC against excessive force in its operations and stressed that enforcement should not intimidate students.
The group’s comments came after an EFCC operation early Thursday in Akure, Ondo State, although specific details of the incident were not disclosed. NANS reiterated its role as a nation-building stakeholder, opposing fraud and actions that could threaten the country’s integrity.
While acknowledging the legal duties of security agencies, NANS stressed the importance of conducting these duties lawfully, with respect for the safety and dignity of Nigerian students.
