Abuja: The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a blogger known as Mark Chidiebere, also referred to as ‘Justice Crack’, along with several soldiers, over alleged incitement and misinformation activities. This development comes amidst concerns about potential threats to military discipline and national security.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, issued a statement detailing that the arrests were prompted by complaints made by Chidiebere on social media about the feeding conditions and welfare of soldiers. The Army’s preliminary investigations suggested that the blogger had engaged in discussions with some soldiers, allegedly intended to foment discontent within the military ranks.
Col. Anele explained that some of the exchanges involving the blogger were deemed to verge on subversive conduct, which necessitated immediate action to mitigate any threats posed to military order. The Army has emphasized that the actions taken are in line with maintaining discipline and ensuring national security.
The blogger was arrested alongside the implicated soldiers to aid in the ongoing investigations. Anele highlighted that the soldiers are being processed according to military procedures and regulations, while Chidiebere has been handed over to civil authorities for further investigation and potential legal proceedings.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and due process throughout this investigation. Anele assured that the Army would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure that justice is appropriately served in this matter.
