Abuja:The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) has expressed interest in collaborating with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to obtain timely, accurate, and credible news content for its television channel, Flame TV.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Nigeria Productions Manager of CBN, Mr. Austin Ekanem, made this request during a courtesy visit to NAN headquarters in Abuja. Ekanem, who also serves as the Director of Programmes at Flame TV, highlighted the growing demand for news about Nigeria among the network’s viewers as the motivation behind this collaboration.
Ekanem emphasized that NAN is considered the preferred source for authentic and credible news about Nigeria for both local and international audiences. He stated that while it is possible to source news from other places, responsible and authentic journalism points to NAN as the go-to organization due to its long-standing presence and experience since the 1970s.
He further mentioned that Flame TV is committed to responsible journalism and wants to avoid controversies stemming from inaccurate information. The partnership with NAN aims to present a balanced and positive image of Nigeria to the international community, countering the often negative portrayals in international media that focus on hunger, conflict, and disasters.
Ekanem noted the importance of media narratives in shaping global perceptions and stressed the need for credible information that accurately reflects Nigeria’s achievements and realities. The proposed partnership with NAN would provide Flame TV with reliable news content and help reshape perceptions of Nigeria internationally.
In response, NAN Editor-in-Chief, Hajiya Hadiza Aliyu, praised CBN for seeking the partnership and assured them of NAN’s capability to meet content needs. She highlighted NAN’s wide array of media products and services, including news reports, video and audio content, and international partnerships.
Aliyu affirmed NAN’s commitment to promoting a balanced representation of Nigeria globally and expressed readiness to establish a long-term partnership with CBN based on mutual respect and shared objectives.
