Zaria: The Coalition for Democratic Transparency has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election and announced plans for a 5,000-person solidarity march in support of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). National Coordinator Malam Shehu-Abdullahi Biye announced the endorsement at a press conference in Zaria.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was titled: ‘Unity, Transparency, and the Path to a New Nigeria in 2027.’ Biye stated that the coalition was formed to promote democratic transparency, accountable leadership, and national unity. The coalition comprises leaders, youths, women’s groups, and civil society organisations from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The group resolved to back Atiku Abubakar, citing his experience, national reach, and vision for economic revitalisation and national unity. Biye declared full support for Abubakar as the preferred presidential candidate for 2027, expressing confidence in his ability to rebuild institutions, restore investor confidence, and ensure that power belongs to the people.

The coalition also pledged support for the ADC, describing it as a viable platform for coalition politics and democratic reform. Biye announced plans for a peaceful 5,000-person march to demonstrate solidarity with the ADC and its vision for a transparent and credible 2027 election. The march is scheduled for June 27 in the Federal Capital Territory and will be conducted lawfully.

Biye stated that the march aims to showcase Nigerians’ growing demand for good governance and electoral transparency. He emphasized that citizens across all six geopolitical zones are alert, organised, and ready to defend democracy. The coalition urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure a level playing field in 2027.

Furthermore, the coalition called on Nigerians to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and participate actively in the 2027 electoral process. Biye stressed that the movement goes beyond individual interests and focuses on national unity, fairness, and improved welfare for Nigerians.
