Jakarta:Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo received the remains of Chief Dan Orbih, a late chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the Benin Airport on Friday. The body arrived on an aircraft with registration number 5N-SYQ.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor was joined by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umar Ikhilor, when he received Orbih’s body at approximately 955 a.m. From the airport, Governor Okpebholo led family members, friends, political associates, and state officials to a lying-in-state ceremony at Orbih’s residence in Benin.
Orbih was a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. At the residence, Governor Okpebholo expressed that Orbih’s passing was a significant loss to the people of Edo, noting that Orbih was more than a politician; he was like a brother. He prayed for comfort and strength for those affected by the loss and for protection and grace for Orbih’s family.
Father Palmer Ikpowanosa, in his sermon, described Orbih as a prominent figure in Edo politics, a master tactician, and a leader. Political figures attending the ceremony echoed these sentiments, highlighting his courage and commitment to speaking truth to power. Mr. Pascal Ugbome of the PDP praised Orbih for his exemplary role in opposition politics, while Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC noted Orbih’s generosity and compassion.
Dignitaries present at the airport included Edo Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Edo APC Chairman Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, and Senator Matthew Urhoghide, along with others such as former House of Representatives member Mr. Samson Osaigie and Edo APC Deputy Chairman Mr. Sylvester Aigboboh.
