Post: Lagos Govt. Seals Balmoral Convention Centre and Foodies Restaurant Over Wastewater Violations

Lagos: The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed the Balmoral Convention Centre on Victoria Island and Foodies Restaurant in Lekki Phase I due to violations of wastewater management regulations.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the LSWMO announced the closures in a statement, highlighting the environmental issues caused by these facilities.

The statement revealed that the Balmoral Convention Centre was closed for discharging untreated sewage into public drains using a pumping machine. Additionally, the facility had a blocked sewage chamber that resulted in wastewater spillage, creating environmental nuisance and offensive odours.

Foodies Restaurant, located at No. 32B, Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase I, was sealed for releasing untreated wastewater containing fats and oils into public drains. This improper discharge clogged drainage systems and contributed to environmental pollution and foul smells.

The statement noted that despite multiple warnings, both facilities failed to adhere to proper wastewater management practices. The LSWMO emphasized that such actions violate environmental laws and pose a public nuisance. The agency reiterated the importance for residents and property owners in Lagos to follow approved wastewater management practices to prevent similar issues.
