Abuja:The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has inaugurated a ministerial committee aimed at addressing the vandalism of power infrastructure. This initiative is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure stable and reliable electricity supply for households, businesses, and industries.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tegbe held an inaugural meeting with the committee members in Abuja. The committee, comprising stakeholders from the security and power sectors, is tasked with ending attacks on power assets, which have been disrupting the electricity value chain. The minister emphasized that the committee’s work would align with the Office of the National Security Adviser’s critical infrastructure unit, treating power assets as a national security priority.
During the meeting, participants proposed measures to curb vandalism, including enforcing existing laws and bringing offenders to justice. They also resolved to deploy technology for protecting national assets and to use sensitization and advocacy to prevent future incidents. All parties committed to working collaboratively to end the issue and agreed to reconvene in the coming week to assess progress.
The meeting was attended by various officials, including the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa, and directors from the Office of the National Security Adviser. Other attendees included leadership from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the permanent secretary, and directors from the Ministry of Power and its relevant agencies.
