Johannesburg: Mr Smart Nwobi, the newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA), has affirmed that the organization will continue to act as the voice for Nigerians residing in South Africa. Nwobi made this assertion during the inauguration ceremony of NUSA’s new executives in Sandton, Johannesburg.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event included the swearing-in of a 13-member national executive team and the introduction of The Migrant Magazine. In his inaugural speech, Nwobi stressed the Union’s steadfast commitment to representing Nigerians in South Africa. He highlighted that the administration aims to promote unity within the Nigerian community and to support trade and commerce, while also strengthening ties between Nigerians and South Africans.
The ceremony also marked the official launch of The Migrant Magazine, which is considered a significant milestone for the Nigerian community in South Africa. Akindele Olunloyo, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine and National Publicity Secretary of NUSA, discussed the publication’s mission at the event. Olunloyo stated that the magazine seeks to connect Nigerian migrants’ heritage with their presence in South Africa, fostering dialogue and community building.
Dr Sule Bassi, Secretary of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, represented Abike Dabiri-Erewa, its Chief Executive, at the event. Bassi delivered a goodwill message that emphasized the opportunities available for Nigerians in the Diaspora to contribute to national development in Nigeria.
The event was attended by various dignitaries and community leaders from across South Africa, highlighting the growing influence and importance of NUSA within the region.
