Banke: The Postal Highway Directorate Planning Office here has been requested to broaden the under-construction road at Khajura, Banke. The locals submitted a memorandum to the Office, arguing that the ongoing construction of the 1,800-meter postal road in four lanes did not meet the current needs. They claimed that the old infrastructure standard is insufficient for the city’s growth.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the road construction, which was stalled for nearly nine years, resumed after the termination of the old contract. A local resident, Sharan Karmacharya, stated that the narrow road poses a high risk of accidents, prompting the community to urge the concerned office to widen it promptly. The current plan requires widening the road by one meter on each side.
Office Chief Lila Bahadur Bhandari noted that they were receptive to the local people’s demand to widen the ongoing road construction. The Road Division Office, Nepalgunj, had signed a contract with Gajurmukhi Construction Company Pvt. Ltd Ilam on April 12, 2018, for the construction of the 1,800-meter road in Khajura Bazaar, Banke, and a 2,200-meter road in Gulariya, Bardiya. The project’s cost was Rs 214.9 million.
However, the project faced a significant delay due to legal hurdles since the contract signing.
