Osogbo: Six members of the House of Representatives from Osun, previously affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have officially defected to the Accord Party, aligning themselves with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign. The lawmakers made this announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party in Osogbo.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Clement Akanni, representing the Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the defectors, forecasting a decisive victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the upcoming governorship election on August 15. Akanni encouraged members of the Accord Party to turn out in large numbers and diligently monitor the voting process.
Akanni, along with five other federal lawmakers, declared their support for Adeleke by joining the Accord Party. The other defectors include Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency), Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency), and Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency).
Governor Adeleke addressed the audience, explaining that his move to the Accord Party was influenced by spiritual guidance during a challenging period within the PDP. He emphasized his commitment to the Accord Party, urging supporters to vote massively for it, as it appears first on the ballot.
In his speech, Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP and the Accord Party for their support, acknowledging that he remains connected to the PDP family. He accepted the endorsement from the Accord Party and thanked them for their acceptance.
Lasun Yusuf, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed his confidence in Adeleke’s chances in the governorship election, urging supporters to stay committed to securing victory.
