Yaba:Trinity University (TU) has launched a Skills Acquisition Academy to make skills development a mandatory part of its students’ training, aiming to boost the employability of its graduates.
Accourding to News Agency of Nigeria, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, announced this initiative during the 4th edition of the university’s annual Campus Flaws event at the TU City Campus in Yaba. The event is designed to mentor students and guide them in choosing career paths, addressing social issues, and preparing them for university education.
The Skills Acquisition Academy will focus on equipping students with employability, entrepreneurial, and marketable skills through partnerships with relevant institutions. This effort is part of the university’s strategy to produce graduates who are both academically excellent and well-prepared for life beyond the classroom.
During the event, which was attended by around 500 SS3 students from 10 schools, various sessions were held, including a panel discussion and stage play. The programme, organised with Etiquette Poise and Protocol Resources (EPRA), covered topics such as personal culture in university, goal setting for academic success, leadership motivation, and personal development.
Nollywood actress Mrs. Yvonne Jegede encouraged students to stay focused on their goals and avoid unhealthy comparisons. Similarly, Mr. Tobi Makinde, known for his role in Jenifa’s Diary, stressed the importance of education, skills, and good character for achieving success.
Panelists at the event urged students to prioritize academic excellence while also developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills that would prepare them for future opportunities beyond graduation.
