Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has pledged unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Senior Special Assistant to the minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, disclosed that Wike made the pledge on Saturday during a meeting with PDP stakeholders in Ochigba, Rivers. Wike attended an end-of-year thanksgiving service organized by the former Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Chibudom Nwuche, in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers.
Addressing stakeholders, Wike emphasized that their efforts would not be in vain and encouraged continued support for Tinubu despite facing intimidation in the state. He recalled his open support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, a time when such backing was challenging in Rivers.
Wike expressed his commitment to supporting the President now that conditions have improved, highlighting that early supporters were acknowledged following Tinubu’s victory. ‘I want to thank you for standing with us all through these years. We know those who are ungrateful,’ he stated.
He noted the political courage required in 2023, when many were uncertain about Tinubu’s prospects and hesitant to support him openly. ‘In politics, you must take a stand, believing that at the end of the day, it will be good. Now, it is good,’ Wike remarked.
Wike credited Rivers supporters for making Tinubu ‘stand strong’ in the state when expressing loyalty was difficult. He assured supporters of his respect for agreements, affirming, ‘When we take a decision, Nigerians know we have taken it.’
He also mentioned that preparations for the 2027 general elections would commence in January, with a promise to honor all political agreements. ‘Agreement is agreement. Anything you cannot do, don’t say it,’ he advised supporters.
Wike dismissed critics who chanted loyalty slogans, asserting that his camp acted ‘when it mattered most.’ He reiterated his steadfast support for Tinubu, saying, ‘We are all in this till the end.’
