Post: Delta NDC Elects New Executive Committee to Steer Party to 2027 Victory

Asaba: The Delta Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected a new executive committee (EXCO) to lead the party’s efforts in the state ahead of the 2027 General Elections. This development came after a successful state delegates’ congress held in Asaba, the state capital, on Monday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the congress was well-attended, drawing hundreds of delegates, party chieftains, elders, and stakeholders. The event was conducted peacefully, with participants maintaining decorum. Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission and security personnel were present to ensure a smooth and orderly process. All candidates for the positions were elected unopposed through voice votes.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Kingsley Okafor, highlighted that the exercise followed the dissolution of the caretaker committee and was conducted after motions for the congress were moved and seconded. Party chieftains and stakeholders expressed their commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape, emphasizing the need to address issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and corruption.

Mr. Ken Pela, a former 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, noted the influx of prominent figures into the NDC as a realignment based on shared values and purpose. He mentioned that the defection of Peter Obi to the party had bolstered its structure and offered renewed hope for Nigeria and Delta. Pela reiterated the party’s mission to tackle socio-economic challenges, including rising fuel prices and widespread hardship, when elected as governor. He emphasized that many citizens were aligning with the party to defend their votes and address security and economic issues.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected State Chairman, Chief Richman Oyindubra, described the congress as a milestone for national progress. He stated, “At this point, we have built the Nigeria Democratic Congress in unity and without rancour. This election places a responsibility on us, and we are committed to justifying the confidence reposed in us by working towards victory in the 2027 General Elections.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that other speakers expressed optimism about the party’s prospects and pledged their readiness to work towards the party’s success in the upcoming polls. The new EXCO includes Mr. Sylvanus Ossai (Deputy Chairman), Mr. Oscar Akpojene (Vice Chairman, South), Mr. Aaron Ekeamaka (Vice Chairman, North), and Mr. Obukowho Doghor (Vice Chairman, Central). Other members include Mr. McCollins Nwose (Publicity Secretary), Philip Adu (Secretary), Genevieve Emeremgini (Women Leader), Moses Otaru (Legal Adviser), and Kelvin Azazue (Financial Secretary), among others.
