Abuja:The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) on October 20, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, revealed this during a news conference in Abuja. He noted that the PCC structure was developed by the National Working Committee and is currently under consultation with the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The consultations aim to ensure that key appointments within the PCC reflect the experience and contributions of the candidates. Positions under consideration include Director-General, Deputy Director-General, Finance Director, Director of Mobilisation, and spokesperson.
Despite public concerns about the timing, Cleopas stated that the party is focused on making strategic appointments to avoid campaign disruptions. The party’s candidates have been actively engaging with the public through consultations and town hall meetings in various regions, including Rivers, Sokoto, and Kaduna, with an upcoming event planned in Enugu on October 15.
The NDC is also making strides in preparing for election-day operations by activating state structures for the deployment of polling agents. This initiative aims to ensure proper vote protection and representation during the elections.
Cleopas emphasized the importance of voter awareness and cautioned against interference by support groups in party administration. He acknowledged the role of groups like the OK Movement and the Obidient Movement in electoral mobilisation, stressing that they must operate within their designated roles to prevent friction.
