Abuja:The Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has attributed an increase in national revenue to the fiscal reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, highlighting over N21.6 trillion generated in the first half of 2026.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of TSG, Dr. Umar Yakasai, emphasized that the revenue growth signals the impact of policies aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s revenue generation systems.
Dr. Yakasai reported that tax revenue rose to N16.80 trillion in the first five months of 2026, up from N10.60 trillion in the same period in 2025, marking a N6.2 trillion increase. This represents an average year-on-year growth of over N1 trillion monthly.
The transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) at the start of 2026 was part of the tax reform agenda aimed at improving efficiency and broadening revenue collection. This transition is seen as a crucial component of the reforms, according to Yakasai.
The TSG also noted the strategic appointment of Dr. Taiwo Oyedele as Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, replacing Chief Wale Edun, as part of the administration’s commitment to expanding revenue.
Furthermore, the increased revenue has led to higher allocations to states and local governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which the TSG sees as a continuation of the administration’s successful fiscal policies.
The group urged state and local governments to focus on citizens’ welfare, as the World Bank has highlighted the need to bridge the poverty gap. Effective use of increased allocations is expected to lead to revenue growth, poverty reduction, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
