Post: Nigeria Mining Week Aims to Boost Investment in Critical Minerals

Abuja:The 11th Nigeria Mining Week, themed ‘Unlocking Investment and Growth through Partnerships,’ is set to focus on investment and the growth of critical minerals amidst increasing demand driven by the energy transition. The event, taking place from October 12 to 14 in Abuja, will gather over 3,000 participants, including 90 sponsors and exhibitors, alongside global mining stakeholders to explore opportunities within Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event is organized by the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Nigeria, with the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) serving as the transparency partner. The gathering will feature discussions by global experts and mining firms on critical minerals, with contributions from Business Sweden, Zambia EITI, and Tanzania’s mining industry focusing on trade, transparency, and inclusion.

MAN’s National Chairman, Dele Ayankale, emphasized that developing Nigeria’s mining sector necessitates collaboration, which the Mining Week aims to facilitate by connecting investors and operators. He highlighted that the platform serves as a catalyst for dialogue, reform, and innovation, bridging the gap between policy and practice, operators and investors, as well as ideas and implementation.

Cyril Azobu, Partner and Mining Industry Leader at PwC Nigeria, noted the importance of positioning Nigeria not just as a source of raw minerals but as a destination for investment, processing, and value addition in the competitive global market.

The event will include seven strategic forums, such as deal rooms and technical workshops, designed to promote practical solutions and direct engagement between operators and investors. Topics will include Nigeria’s role in global battery, magnet, and electric vehicle supply chains, the gold value chain, integrated steel production, iron ore supply, and industrial minerals. Additionally, the Women in Extractive Industries Forum will explore technical, operational, and leadership opportunities for women in the mining sector.
