Post: OAU SSANU and NASU Join Nationwide Strike Over 2009 Agreement Non-Implementation

Ile-ife: The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have joined a nationwide strike due to the delay in implementing the 2009 agreement.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the unions held a peaceful protest at Freedom Park in Ile-Ife, displaying placards with various messages on Monday. Mr. Ademola Junaid, Chairman of SSANU, stated that the strike was a result of the Federal Government’s failure to conclude and implement the agreement from 2009.

Junaid acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in the education sector, specifically his initiative to provide intervention loans to workers to enhance their welfare. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s lack of sincerity regarding the challenges faced by SSANU and NASU members.

Junaid called on the Federal Government to address the unions’ demands promptly. Mr. Dayo Oyediwura, Chairman of NASU, further alleged that the Federal Government had selectively responded to the demands of only one union within the university system.
