Bhaktapur: Teaching and learning activities have begun at a temporary camp located in Nepal Electricity Authority’s training center in Kharipati, Bhaktapur.
According to National News Agency Nepal, a health camp was conducted today, which included the distribution of medicines and necessary consultations. Medical professionals, technical teams, and ophthalmologists from the Bhaktapur Hospital and the Tilganga Eye Hospital facilitated health checkups for 158 residents, as reported by District Public Health Office Chief Anjana Khadka.
The temporary shelter houses 158 individuals, including 26 children, who were relocated from squatter settlements within the district. Among the residents is an eight-year-old child with a tracheotomy requiring regular care, a senior citizen with paralysis, a blind family, a leprosy patient, and families with physical and mental disabilities. The camp also accommodates new and expectant mothers.
The camp provides health, education, and psychosocial counseling services to its residents. In response to a suspected tuberculosis case, the National Tuberculosis Centre in Bhaktapur has been requested to conduct screenings using an AI-based X-ray machine.
Bagamati Province’s Health Minister, Kiran Thapa Magar, stated that discussions are ongoing with the federal Ministry of Health and Population to address health concerns. The provincial government is committed to ensuring medical care for the residents while they remain in the camp, the Minister added.
Educational activities for the 26 children have commenced with the assistance of monitors. Regular teaching and learning sessions have officially started, albeit on a temporary basis.
