Abuja: The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has called for peace and stability to drive industrialisation and trade for national productivity. Chief Emeka Obegolu, President of the ACCI, made this call in his message celebrating Nigerian workers on International Workers’ Day 2026.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the theme for the 2026 May Day is ‘Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment’. Obegolu emphasized that the resilience and dedication of workers are crucial for sustaining businesses, boosting productivity, and supporting national development despite ongoing economic challenges. He highlighted that peace and stability are essential for economic recovery, industrial expansion, and job creation across various sectors.
Obegolu praised Nigerian workers in both formal and informal sectors for their significant contributions to industrialisation, trade, and inclusive economic growth. He described them as the backbone of national progress and societal stability. Achieving this year’s theme, he noted, requires stronger labor relations, inclusive policies, fair wages, safe working conditions, and growth opportunities.
“Productivity thrives where workers are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Policies that promote decent work should be effectively implemented,” he stated. Obegolu urged the government at all levels to prioritize pro-worker and pro-growth policies, including minimum wage reviews and a stable business environment.
He also acknowledged the contributions of ACCI members and staff to the chamber’s growth and national development. “We reaffirm our commitment to partnerships and policies that promote economic resilience, industrial growth, and improved workers’ welfare,” he added.
