Abuja:A 28-year-old man, Aliyu Usman, faced a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Wednesday, charged with allegedly buying a stolen motorcycle.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Usman, a resident of Mpape, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The case was brought to light when the complainant, Yusuf Usman from Lake View Estate, Mabushi, reported it to the Mabushi Police Station on October 5.
The Prosecution Counsel, Catherine Okafor, stated that the complainant accused Hassan Suleiman, currently at large, of stealing his motorcycle valued at N300,000. The investigation suggested that the defendant purchased the motorcycle from Suleiman for N25,000, fully aware of its stolen status.
The prosecutor highlighted that this act violated Section 317 of the Penal Code. In response to a bail application by the defendant’s counsel, Senior Magistrate Theresa Okwejie granted bail to Usman, setting the amount at N100,000 with a requirement for one surety of the same sum.
The magistrate stipulated that the surety must present a valid identification and live within the court’s jurisdiction. Furthermore, she directed the court registrar to confirm the surety’s address, with the trial scheduled for October 28.
