Post: Olumide Oyedeji Announces Candidacy for Nigeria Basketball Federation Presidency

Lagos:Former Nigerian basketball player Olumide Oyedeji has announced his intention to run for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). He made this declaration in Lagos during a press briefing, where he outlined his vision for the federation.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyedeji plans to leverage his extensive playing experience and international exposure to enhance the NBBF. His proposed administration would focus on grassroots development, improving domestic competitions, ensuring player welfare, and building stronger international partnerships.

Oyedeji, who was discovered during his junior years in Ibadan, has represented Nigeria on the international stage and played professionally worldwide. He believes his global experience can strengthen the federation’s international relationships and create better development pathways for Nigerian players both locally and internationally.

A key aspect of his agenda is grassroots development, emphasizing collaboration between schools, clubs, state associations, and national teams. He aims to establish a structured national pathway to identify and nurture young talent, providing them with coaching, competition, and educational support.

Improving domestic leagues is also a priority for Oyedeji, who promises regular competition, better organization, and increased club participation. He envisions a sustainable league structure that offers players more opportunities and helps coaches and officials enhance their skills.

Player welfare would be a focal point under Oyedeji’s leadership, with plans to address contracts, insurance, medical support, competition schedules, and other conditions affecting players. His international connections could attract technical partners, sponsors, and development organizations to support Nigerian basketball.

Commercialization is another area Oyedeji sees as vital for strengthening the federation, through sponsorship, broadcasting, digital content, and promotional activities. On the women’s basketball front, he aims to bolster competitions and provide opportunities for young female players to advance to elite levels.

Drawing on over two decades of experience in basketball as both a player and administrator, Oyedeji is committed to uniting stakeholders and offering effective leadership. He emphasizes the importance of building constructive relationships with state associations, clubs, players, coaches, referees, sponsors, and other stakeholders to achieve success in his proposed administration.
