Post: Security Guard Charged with Stealing Car Spare Parts


Abuja:A security guard named Ishaya Alkali was brought before a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing 20 pieces of imported car spare parts valued at N10 million.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the police charged Alkali, who resides in Life Camp, Abuja, with theft. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, stated that policemen on patrol duty apprehended the defendant on September 30. On that date, around 9 p.m., Alkali was allegedly caught at Enoch’s Court, Life Camp, with the stolen car spare parts.



Nwachukwu mentioned that Alkali was employed to guard the site, and the Site Manager had informed the police about other missing items. During the police investigation, the defendant reportedly admitted to stealing other things from the site.



The Defence Counsel, Effort Omon, requested bail for Alkali, referencing Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015. The prosecutor highlighted that the offence violates Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.



Magistrate Ramlatu Yusuf granted the defendant bail set at N500,000 with one surety of the same amount. The surety must be a Civil Servant not below GL07 and provide a reliable means of identification. The case has been adjourned until November 4 for further hearing.
